Honours Project

The user experience analysis of online news article websites for people with dyslexia.

Literature Review

The literture review report investigated how websites specifically, online news articles, could use design techniques and approaches to increase the accessibility of a website. Conducted by a user-centred design approach allowed users to be involved in the project throughout the process. One of the goals of the project is to suggest improvements that can increase the user experience for people with dyslexia.

The aim was to analyse the use of visual, emotional & universal design techniques for improving the user experience of online news articles for people with dyslexia. The outcome would be to provide an environment that is far more flexible for not just people with accessible needs, such as dyslexia but for everyone.

Design and Development

The design and development report outlines the aim, objectives and research questions of the study and states any changes to the process. It details how the methods were applied and the results from the data collected while providing recommendations on how to improve the news websites tested. Finally, it details the design and development, testing and evaluation of the prototype offering conclusions of the outcome, final thoughts and future work.

Evaluation & Review

The evaluation and review report evaluates and reviews the user-centred design approach taken throughout the project. This aims to analyse the use of visual, emotional and universal design techniques for improving the user experience of online news articles for people with dyslexia. It then details how the use of the feedback capture grid can be used to gather further user feedback about the project’s deliverable, the high-fidelity prototype of the news website. The report presents and analyses the participants' feedback about their overall opinion on the prototype. Finally, it discusses a critical review of the whole project, with reference to the initial aim, objectives and research questions, by reviewing the main findings, what was learnt by doing the study and the overall thoughts and feelings from conducting the project.
